On Thursday, 16th November, 2023 the Advocacy Group for the Establishment of Nigeria-Benin Permanent Joint Commission organized a Bilateral Consultative & Dialogue of Nigeria and Beninese Stakeholders meeting held at FAMS Embassy Suites, Badagry, Lagos State.
The array of personalities gathered at the Consultative & Dialogue meeting cut across different strata of the economic and trade relations between the two countries. Delegates were also from security agencies, para-military bodies such as Nigeria Custom Service, Nigeria Immigration Service; political office holders and traditional rulers from both countries were well represented.
Addresses and paper presentations at the consultative meeting dwell on the objectives and benefits derivable from the permanent joint commission when established to advance the course of advocacy for the establishment, modalities and strategies to adopt were read. Just as the challenges confronting cross-border trade, security along the border corridors and economic integration between Nigeria and Benin Republic were also analyzed with solutions provided for them. Today’s Consultative Meeting is the climax of a journey that started in August 2021, which build on common boundaries, people, languages and culture.
